Spiritual Legacy – The Idea

c-baton-passThe idea of Spiritual Legacy sprung as the brainchild of one of the members of our group who thought that we should be leaving a meaningful legacy for our next generation – a legacy that we could be proud of, one that would help us die in peace with the assurance that we had not wasted our lives in vain and instead left something useful for our generations to follow.

Spiritual Legacy, in its first step, is about educating others yet at the same time educating ourselves through continuous introspection because we believe that individual growth is a continuous process which is never complete. We want to learn from you just as much as we want to send our message across to you and in the process we hope to grow together as a society. It is all about self-examination and soul-searching because only that’s where true satisfaction is hidden. We start from ourselves and spread our word, not through preaching but through self-example. As beautifully put by Gandhi:

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

We strongly believe in the freedom of conscience and thought. Our message is about love for humanity irrespective of religion, caste and creed. We believe that all human beings are created equal by the same Creator and it is only grossly unfair on our part if we start treating them differently based on their different belief – a belief which they might have inherited just like us.

The fundamental delusion of humanity is to suppose that I am here and you are out there – Yasutani Rosh

We value the importance of emphatic listening because it is not our disagreements but misunderstandings that give birth to hatred and intolerance. We believe that in order to truly understand others we need to put ourselves in their shoes and try to see things from their perspective. True tolerance, to us, entails a respect for the dignity of human beings regardless of their qualities. Unfortunately this virtue is fast disappearing from our society and leaving behind horrible results. We want to contribute towards creating a society where people will disagree but at the same time show respect to the views, beliefs and practices of others that differ from their own.

We want to teach that not everything in life is black and white and that there is a huge shade of grey as well which many of us tend to ignore. That we should be accommodative in our thinking, dealing and in our actions. We are no saints and at the same time we believe that we have no right to be judgemental on others just because they sin differently. We all have our shortcomings and the simplest way to overcome those is to have regular and ruthless self-scrutiny and introversion. Only then will we be able to improve ourselves individually and as society in the bigger picture.

Our message of peace is for whole humanity as it is only peace with which comes prosperity and happiness. So please join us in spreading this message across to your friends, families and acquaintances and leave this world a better place for our kids. Let us become the beacon of light and hope in this world full of war, hate and despair.

  1. Salam, as Muslims our legacy is to: Say, “We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him.” I believe that all messengers brought the same message, that is oneness of Allah. We need to do our humble efforts to remind it to mankind. When we are doing it for sake of Allah, we wont turn red when there is disagreement. However, if we tend to bring egos and pride in, then it will be a disaster, and cause more harm than benefit.

  2. Wonderful idea and concept. In this day and age, harmony and peace is what we need, to come on top of our differences ethnic, religious, cultural and make the world a safer place where everyone can live without fear of persecution…..
